Tabebuia avellanedae is a tree in the tribe Tecomeae of the Bignoniaceae family. It is widely found growing along the Amazon in South America growing to a height between 20 and 30 meters and a diameter between 60 and 80 cm and blooming reddish purple flowers.
It is well known that over 1500 years ago, during the Inca Empire, tribes throughout the Andes roasted the inner bark of the tree for its healthful properties. Even today, it is called the ‘Tree of blessings of God’ for its phytosanitary properties that prevent the growth of bacteria and fungus. It also acts as a natural repellant to harmful insects.
Tabebuia avellanedae is commonly known as ‘Taheebo’ in Inca and ‘Ipe roxo’or ‘Palo d'Arco" in Kechua.
